Eat your way to the ideal weight

I was also one of the many under the impression that as long as I cut down on the calories in my meals, it would be enough to aid in losing weight. When chatting to a super-healthy colleague, she explained the importance of eating 3 meals a day with lots of snacks in between. At first this made no sense, but seeing how she is at the ideal weight, there had to be some truth in it. A friend sent me this link, and what an interesting website – this also confirms that in order to lose those extra kgs, it helps to eat lots of small healthy snacks in between meals. It goes further to show you how you can still eat many of the meals you love, but can cut down the calories, by making informed decisions.

Here are a few things that jumped out for me:
  • Almonds are a better source of protein than eggs.
  • Hummus, being primarily made of chickpeas, is excellent for regulating blood sugar and is packed with protein and fibre.
  • In a study, participants who drank chocolate milk ‘yes I said Chocolate’ were able to “ride 49% longer on a stationary bike than those given a generic carbohydrate-replacement beverage.”

Here’s to healthy eating, while still getting a chocolate fix :-)
